This Thursday, June 19th, we’ll be attending the ARL’s seminar “How does ESG create value for investors in the Build to Rent sector?”- a topic closely aligned with our recent efforts within the BTR industry. While as a furniture company, our focus is often on the “Environmental” efforts of ESG, which we are proud to be making progress in, the “S” for social value is just as critical. This blog post will delve deeper into Base Furnishings’ efforts to deliver social value to our BTR clients through our services and products.
For us, that value starts inside the home. Our in-house interior design team crafts schemes that support the modern rental lifestyle – layouts that flow naturally, zones for dining and lounging in open-plan spaces, and biophilic touches that promote wellness. Design plays a part in influencing mood, routine and wellbeing, which is why our show flats include subtle nods to active, healthy living.
Social value means thinking practically: durable, low-maintenance furniture, with high Martindale count fabrics, helps pet-friendly developments thrive and pets, especially for younger residents, are a vital part of lifestyle.
But creating community isn’t just about interiors. We actively support our BTR partners in improving the resident experience. From sponsoring welcome pack hampers for Folio’s London Marathon participating residents to helping the BTR operator organise Christmas events, we love being part of these shared moments. Whenever we furnish a development, we scout the surrounding area for opportunities to source local gift vouchers for residents, not only helping them settle in, but connecting them with their neighbourhood from day one.
Our drive to source locally is not limited to welcome packs only – we offer an expansive selection of furniture produced and upholstered here in the UK. We believe that, apart from the environmental impact of reducing carbon emissions by nearshoring, this also contributes on a more local level. It helps us replenish stock faster, reducing headaches for both BTR managers and residents. We also believe that tenants are happier, knowing that the bed they sleep in was proudly made in the UK, supporting the local economy.
Our Associate Sales Director, Charlotte Lewis, and Senior Interior Designer, Alana Fernando, will be attending on Thursday the 19th. We’re looking forward to some great conversations at the event and to hear more about the goals and perspectives of our BTR clients. If you’re there too, come and say hello. Let’s start the conversation on how furniture and interiors can support a better way to rent.
