Learn about the assistance Base Furnishings can provide your business to thrive in the rapidly growing Later Living BTR sector.
People aged 55 and older are increasingly opting to rent, valuing the flexibility and convenience offered by retirement properties and BTR across the UK. The ARL notes that 5% of BTR renters are over 55, surpassing the 3% in private rentals. Savills projects this market will grow by 100,000 households by the decade's end.[1] This rapid growth will present opportunities for growth and collaboration with trusted furniture suppliers like Base Furnishings, with a proven track record of delivering BTR projects on time and within budget.
The Later Living segment of the BTR market is unique due to the needs and requirements of the target demographic. We worked with Populo Living to furnish the spacious communal area of their Later Living BTR community – Noele Gordon House. This development in central East Ham was built to give older renters an opportunity to downsize to a modern flat designed to fit and address their needs. Our Interior Design team approached the project with the mindset that the communal area had to be purposely designed to facilitate socialising and to be able to hold many groups at once.
We chose the furniture with ergonomics in mind, ensuring all items were at a height that would make them easy to get in and out of, empowering residents to lead an independent and active lifestyle. The project's aesthetics were tied around natural colours and finishes with an emphasis on exposed wood, greens and dark and light browns. The furniture pieces such as the Swiss and Neyo Armchairs had soft edges and shared a design tied around gentle curves rather than sharp corners, giving the room a welcoming atmosphere and optimising the space for ease of mobility. We ensured there were clear and wide paths from all seating areas to both the exits of the room. Combining retro and contemporary elements the scheme established a classy and inviting communal area for future residents to enjoy.
