Small Space, Big Impact

Decorating a small space can often leave us feeling challenged and at a loss; in short, maintaining the small amount of space we have is key and we don’t want to feel like we over clutter the space the minute we put a sofa in.

So, in order to help anyone approaching this dilemma, we’ve sat down with one of our in-house interior designers to gain her expert perspective, to ensure you can maximise the potential of your space and have happy tenants in no time.

Here are the three key points we discussed:

What would be your advice when it comes to furnishing & styling a smaller space?

“From my perspective, there’s no need to use small furniture in a small space - the priority is choosing some statement pieces that will catch the eye. You can use regular-size furniture and large-scale accessories; you’ll just need to use fewer pieces in the room overall.”

Are dark colours a no-go for smaller spaces?

“The answer to this one is controversial – a few designers believe that we need to brighten up a small space, but others disagree. I believe, Having a small space doesn’t mean it has to be a white box. You can still go bold with colour and embrace the size of your home. A darker shade of paint on the walls and ceiling can make the space feel like a jewellery box.”

What 3 things would you say are key to making a smaller space feel bigger?

"First, focus on Lighting. Small spaces can often end up feeling dark due to small windows. Try adding plenty of light sources in every room to make up for the lack of natural light.

Secondly - folding furniture - consider installing furnishings that can fold up when not in use, so you’ll free up floor space.

Finally, mirrors can help you make the most of what you do have by reflecting it around the room."
